I'm just wondering if it is necessary to reformat a hard drive when reinstalling windows. Any specific benefits? I don't want to have to detach my hard drive and hook it up to another PC. Is this needed to reformat?

If you really want a clean OS installation, reformat is part of the installation and there is no need to physically alter the PC. If you just want to repair Windows, it has a built in self repair feature that is like an installation but takes less time. ALL files will be intact.

Be sure to install all the drivers after a fresh installation or a repair.

Its not necessary to reformat it to install windows... (Unless your not on NTFS.... If this harddrive was previously used for Windows, you'll be alright... If it was previously used for Linux, i'd format it)

It's also not necessary to swap computers to format it either...

If you dont format the drive before installing windows, you'll just have some extra system files in your computer under documents and settings... like your old profiles... No biggie... should be fine...
