I am trying to build a computer. All the parts are new. I have an ABIT AG8 motherboard, which does not have an integrated graphics card. For that reason I also have a separate graphics card. I know i still have to set the BIOS up but I can never get a picture on the screen.

I have already taken everything apart and put it back together. I checked for any compatability issues and there were none. All power cords are attached. But I still do not get any picture on the monitor. Please help.

do you know what type of card you got wether it be AGP, PCI, or EPCI? Usually your mother board should be able to automatically set. Check connections that they are snuggly in the teeth if not make sure the card is not defective.

That doesn't sound good. Most, if not all MB should auto detect the card and provide basic vga graphics until you install an OS and drivers. If you have another slot to put in in try that. If not check you MB instructions, you may have to set a jumper on the board but I haven't seen this needing to be done in years.

Make sure your screen is plugged in and turned on. Check your graphics card is in the right slot and is housed properly. Make sure you have adequate power supply to run your system.Try reloading the mother board disc and check compatability of graphics card . Good luck.

Does the PC sound as if it is running? Do the fans start up and does the hard disk activity light light up or are there any beeps when you switch on?
If you are using a digital input on your monitor try switching to an analogue input.

If everything is connected, then it sounds to me like there is a defective part somewhere in there. However with only this much information, it would be next to impossible for me to figure out which one. I am online on Yahoo Messenger, drop me a message through my profile and let me see if we can troubleshoot this step by step.
