i recieved an old compaq deskpro from someone and when i turn it on it loads up linux, then asks for "vector login" i dont know what the vector login is. i have a windows xp media edition cd . can i remove linux and install windows ? i dont know how to boot from disk, is there a button or combination of buttons that i can press to get it to boot from disk. basicaly i just want to remove linux and install xp

Look up a computer technician around the Malls and have him dislodge the old linux... If I were you I would get a new Linux Version from the net... Much better than MicroSoft

MCE may not even run on your PC, it's pretty hardware specific. But give it a try.

Make sure that you can find all the XP/MCE drivers for your PC first. Then, make sure your PC is set to boot to CD in the BIOS.

Then, put the Windows MCE CD in the drive and turn your PC on.

MCE should replace Linux or it could crash. You would then want to try Kubuntu Linux instead. Google for it.

Simply boot from the windows xp cd and follow the onscreen instructions for installing windows.

Only a complete idiot would remove Linux for XP.
