It will run on 512 fine. But you would be shocked at the difference a gig will make in the responsiveness of your pc. I run 2gb in mine, but I'm a gamer. I would go with 1gb were i you.

Everyone seems to think you have to have 512. My company has over 4000 machines running Xp Pro with only 264 Mb of memory. They are all running Office Suites, Lotus Notes, and IBM AS400 emulator, and numerous other windows based programs.
They work just fine with the 264 Mb.
Having said that, it would make sense to have 512 or a
gig if you can afford it.

To answer this question propery one would need to know what processer chip is being used, motherboard ,and ram, also is there a video card?
I have run XP Pro with 64 megs of ram after turning off all the 'eye candy' [purdy stuff] and turning off all uneeded system resources, but this was on a great old mobo,p2 450,with ati rage pro 32 meg vidcard.the ram was one stick of pc133 sd.
For a lame system one should have at least 128 megs of ram and 256 is better, any 3d vidcard will do for old games but 32/64 meg wouldbe wise.Just turn off everything your not using when playing the game. And turn off the 'eye candy'the blue stuff,go back to the boxy grey look for your active desktop.
A low tech game to me would be Diablo, warcraft 2 or Age of empires 2.

512 will be fine yes...but your boot up and shut down will be slow, if its DDR2 then spending the 30 dollars to get another 512 MB of ram is perfect and if not...then 512 is enough.

512mb is usually fine if you have MINIMAL startups and you are NOT sharing RAM with integrated graphics. 2x512mb on dual channel mode is optimum and should be fast.
