on my current mobo amd opteron cpu
ddr1 ram
i have 550wpsu
i would like 2 stick with amd if anyone can suggest a good mobo would be gratefull ....if possible i would like 2 use my current processor on the new mobo till i upgrade the cpu......i have a limit of 100 2 spend on new mobo

Not possible to change to a DDR2 motherboard and keep the same CPU. AMD integrates the memory controller onto the CPU, therefore your CPU can only work with DDR RAM.

yeah save for a better system, the cpu doesn't support DDR2 memory. You would need an AM2 supported cpu and motherboard plus the ddr2 ram. So by the time thats over hell a upgraded video card, case, and you'd have a new system. Im not adding a disc drive or hdd cuz you could pull those out.

I would just increase your ram in the system. DDR2 is good, but look at some benchmarks, it doesn't blow you out of your chair with power.

My advice would be to save your money and wait to upgrade everything together. Chances are if you upgrade the mobo to one that uses DDR2 then you won't find one compatible with your CPU. If you do find one that is compatible, you'll still have to upgrade your RAM and that will push you well over the $100.00 mark.
