I have 3 Gateways and I don't have any complaints, but I don't ask too much of them either--no games or TV. You can pretty much make your computer when you get it from Gateway. I'd go to the Gateway web site www.gateway.com. Obviously, you want a duo core processor, integrated wireless networking, as much memory as you can afford for the games, and what ever it takes to make TV watching possible. Is this a desk top or lap top. If it's a desk top, you should get a nice sized monitor. Also make sure you get the kind of DVD drive you want--I wouldn't skimp on that either. I got my first desk top in 1999--had to upgrade because it didn't have enough RAM for all the new technology. The one I'm using now is 4 years old. Had to replace the monitor because it took a surge during a thunder storm (kept the computer on in one or my arrogant moods). I bought a nice laptop (a little heavy) to take with me on travel for movies and Internet or just using it wireless outside. So far, so good.

OK, any Apple fan will send you to hell for even considering Gateway. Just letting you know.

I may be biased, but I'm pro-Gateway. Our first computer was Gateway brand and it worked like a charm (still does; we've had to get it fixed a couple of times because of viruses and we've had to upgrade it but that's understood). I have a Gateway desktop in my room and my friend (who's a gaming fanatic btw) can't believe how fast it runs, for one thing (ok, so that depends on the isp too but still). My computer's been very good to me and I've had it for around... 2 - 3 years. Never been to the shop. Fast like a mother. I've installed/downloaded games and the experience was great.

I say go for it, but that's just me and I'm not an avid computer know-it-all so... you're just getting an opinion.

OH if you're really into gaming (hardcore) I'd usggest alienware but that's pretty pricey.

as for hp.. idk about that... my friend has bought two hp computers and has had the worst luck with them.

It's not good for gaming. Everything is built right onto the motherboard, so upgrading it next to impossible. If you want it for gaming, don't buy it. Buy something else, like an HP, or Alienware or Compaq. I had a Gateway, and I didn't mind it, but it wasn't the greatest I've ever had. It had a few problems, and, like I said, everything is built onto the motherboard.

I have over a dozen computers at home, all makes and models, and more of them are gateways than any other brand. That doesn't mean you cannot get a lemon from gateway, but that can happen with any brand.

if you arent going to be working on them theyre ok. but if you like to tinker around (after the warant is expired of course) id say no they all have molds and if something messes up its hard to get it fixed without sending ti back to the company. plus ive never seen anyone have very good luck with them. sony vaio is awesome so is hp compaq or acer. acer cheaper but works really well

Gateway is a good entry level machine, but if you are a serious gamer you will want something a little more heavy duty.

No, gatways are no very good computers. And neither are dells. If you are getting a computer, i recommend a Hullett Packard (HP) my dad has an HP desktop, and i have a laptop. they both work great, for anything.
