Desktops - January 2007

My computer recently died. I'd like to make sure to erase the hard drive before getting rid of it but I can't get it to start any more. Any advice on how to clean the HD without being able to boot up the computer? thanks

I HAVE A SONY VAIO PCV-RX560 WITH A P4 ASUS p48-LX BIOS VERSION 1001 ON MY COMPUTER AND IT WONT LOAD THE HARDDRIVE BUT WILL LOAD AN 80GB HARDDRIVE CAN UPDATING MY NIOS SOLVE THIS PROBLEM IF NOT CAN YOU SUGGEST ANY OTHER MEANS OF FIXING THIS ERORR

Configuration: IBM P-III 1GHz, 256 MB RAM, 80GB HDD, Builtin VGA & sound.
Problem occurred when I added new higher capacity HDD. I'm unable to complete any O/S installation. Changed RAM from other working PC, tried with New VGA card, replugged data cables, RAM, HDD, Bios etc.
Tried with Safe Mode in Win98 SE and installed correct driver from manufacturer. But when restarted, same restarting problem.
Suspecting mother board problem..any idea how to check..?

I know they're bad. But I don't understand where they come from, how they are created, how they are able to infect your computer, and what files are most likely to get corrupted. Anyone with info, I'd really appreciate it.

Last time I built a PC was about 2 years ago, got to build a new one next week but now I notice I have the option of buying a PCI-E graphics card as well as the AGP cards I'm used to. What are the pros and cons of AGP vs PCI-E ? Thanks.

Do not tell me it is the Dual Core because 2.66 x 2 is greater than just 3 Ghz. I know it does not work that way. I also want to know about some of the problems concerning the Dual Cores i've heard.

My problem is as follows: I delete files to the recycle bin, then when I go to the recycle it dosnot show in the Recycle bin. i have allready uncheck the " Remove file immediatly when delete" Option in the properties. pls help

I have a freshly built computer. All new components. XP Home Edition. When I click on "turn off" XP shuts down like normal and the monitor shuts off like normal. All the fans contine to run. There's power to the CD/DVD. The on/off button is then useless. There is an on/off switch on the back I have to use. I have to turn it off then on before the on button in front works again. HELPPPP I've searched the net. Other people have complained about this. I can't find anybody with a solution.

I have never built a computer before and im doing a little bit of research I guess youd say. I heard it is supposed to be cheaper to use the stuff you have and just upgrade. I am getting no audio when running WinTV2000. I have the audio wire running from the capture card's Out to my board/sound card In. I have set the audio in WinTV to LineIn volume to 100%. Still, nothing.
I have also double checked the settings for my Soundcard and it is set for LineIn recording.
