go to start menu, control panel, which will open a menu. Open add or remove programmes. Select this and wait for the list to gather (this may take a really long time!). Scroll down to media player and click on it, then follow the step by step instructions and delete it. Food luck. C.

Maurice F has it right. Cool tip.
You may have to a regedit if you want the entire thing gone.
Before deleting it from registry, backup the registry, then delete references to media player in the registry ... there will be quite a few in most cases. If you are not sure about what to remove, after uninstalling Media Player through Maurice's tip, then use regclean.

Well Easy, Go to start/comtrol panel/add remove programs/ then look for windows media player then clik on it and hit install, and it will give a list to re install or uninstall, but its not a good idea to remove it becuase you need it for other app. to run and programs.

The media player is like your CD player. You can toss it out the window, and your music will still be safe on your CDs. By the way, for all the jazziness of the various media players and music stations etc etc etc, you can't beat Winamp. Simple, free, and durable.

If you can't remove it via the Control Panel, you can change the file associations so that filenames with .mpg, .avi, .mp3 extensions, etc, are no longer associated with the media player, but with another media player instead. The easiest way to do that is to install an alternative player such as Winamp and opt to change the associated filetypes to Winamp at installation-time.
