Desktops - January 2007

I also have two hard drives. C and D on this computer. If I can not simply reinstall a new XP system how do I reformat without a disc?

Hi guys, happy new year to you all, thanks for taking the time to read this. I've got these horrible grainy lines coming up on windows, both vertically and horizontally. It's not the monitor because I've tried two different ones, it's not the graphics card because I took it out and connected through the original monitor port and it's still coming up, it's not a virus because I scanned with my symantec antivirus and there was no infection, It's not my resolution because I've changed it and it's still there. It's so so frustrating! Any ideas would be SO greatly appreciated, thanks a lot guys. Take it easy and all the very best.

The last few weeks my PC has been acting funny. I get lag in places where I didn't used to, and my newest game runs boggy and takes forever anytime it has to load anything big. It's not just games though, I have seem some bogdown with internet browsing, music, pretty much everything.

No major changes during this time. All drivers and software up to date. Defragged, virus scanned, ran a chkdsk, ran spybot, ran hijack this, deleted my cookies, moved my hard drives so they are on seperate ide controllers, and begged MicroShaft to let me die peacfully.

I am running the following hardware:

AMD 2800+
Asus A7N8X-E deluxe mobo
1 gig kit of dual channel DDR (Corsair)
2 80 gig EIDE hard drives @ 7200 rpm
ATI x1600 pro (AGP)
Soundblaster Live (ancient tech, I know)
paired optical drives (CDr/w, DVD r)

I just got a new video card so that I can play Flight Simulator X. Everything works fine, but when i load a lfight and take off, the computer restarts suddenly. That crazy thing is that I can taxi all day, and do anything I want, but when the plane leaves the ground, the computer restarts. Is it the video card, I have turned down all of the graphics on the game as low as they go.

I mean so deleted they can't do CSI stuff to it. I already use a windows washer with bleach(all pc terms) Is there any program I can dowload or should I just live a magnet on it for a day???? (does that really work)

I uninstalled Win.me and installed Win.2000 server...now i can't get my speakers to work...it says i have no drivers...how do i get drivers for this thing?..I have no manuals or info about the motherboard..Everything else seems fine so far...I have the original speakers hooked up as well...if i had the original operators manual it would help but I don't know where I would get one...any help?

I assembled my own computer but I am having problems to make run it well. "Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press enter" error appear on the monitor, after set up BIOS. I only have a motherboard CD and a not original Windows XP. I tried inserting them but it didn't go on.

I have already submitted this question once but I needed to add details to it because some of the answers I got won't work.

So I'm trying to reinstall windows XP on my Dell but a fatal error keeps occuring that prevents the setup from continuing. Here's what the log file says:

Error:
SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest of policy file "D:\I386\asms\52\MSFT\ WINDOWS\NET\DXMRTP\ DXMRTP.MAN on line 5.

Here's the other problem. I've been trying to find a way to delete the hard drive but everytime the computer reboots, it automatically restarts the installation setup at the point right before the fatal error. There are no other options except to just allow the installation to continue. The computer is a Dell. I was trying to find a way to manually delete the hard disk using MS-DOS but I can't seem to be able to do that either.

Any ideas? Best advice gets 10 points.

i was playing sims which i didn't change any settings for in order to play. it suddenly froze then went to desktop which was all big and purpley and bluey (like old-fashioned computer screens) so i restarted the laptop and chose don't send when the error report thing came up. now the ordinary desktop is back but with two black columns on either side and the font is slightly thicker. can i fix it and what cause it? thank you!

My childrens pc is a GA7VTXE mobo with an AMD 1600cpu. I have been given an emachine IM845GV mobo and a P4 1.8a chip. Before I start a rebuild can anyone tell me if it is worth the effort. Will also have to replace the 128meg graphic card as no AGP slot on the emachine board. I am thinking it should be a bit faster but just how much and will it be noticable. Thanks for any advice you can give me. Stiffshifter.

screen came up that said it was unable to locate "winsrv". I tried pressing the F8 function key to boot up in safe mode, but it doesn't seem to recognize the command. I want to try to salvage data, pictures, etc... What caused this to happen and what is the fix? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I am new to overclocking and need help with settings for my new rig.

Here are the specs:

CPU: Intel e6600
Mobo: Asus P5N-E 650i
Memory: Corsair Xtreme PC6400/DDR2/800

I have a CoolerMaster Aquagate mini R80 CPU cooler.

Not looking for anything too crazy, but I have read you can get this CPU up to 3.4 and I'd like to try.
