I assembled my own computer but I am having problems to make run it well. "Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press enter" error appear on the monitor, after set up BIOS. I only have a motherboard CD and a not original Windows XP. I tried inserting them but it didn't go on.

First off, you need a valid version of an operating system and a bootleg copy of xp will get you a maximum of a 30 day trial period so dont waste your time because any key you use WONT work! When you finally get a valid version, open your bios and make sure that the first boot device is set to boot from cdrom. Put the op sys cd in and shut down and restart. If XP isnt an option, you might try to go to a local software resale vendor and look for a copy of windows 2000. Its the precursor to XP and it works far better in my opinion anyway! Good Luck!

SIMON! At least she is trying and sounds like shes done well so far! Do I detect a little jealousy in your comment because you aint got what it takes to do the same?

Your are not going anywhere without the XP CD. You can download and install the XP boot files and obviously boot from them - but that is not the os files.
If the XP CD you do have is a copy or one that came with a previous CD - it will still work - however if it is a burned copy or activated - you will shortly get the Microsoft "blue star" - invalid copy - no updates.
Make sure all the cables are correct - can you see your hard drive in bios - if not - check your jumper settings on the hard drive - one hard drive - set to "master".
Start there - good luck!

The error message indicates no valid boot sources available e.g operating system on hdd, bootable floppy or disc in the drives. You will need to find or create one but first make sure in the BIOS the boot sequence is set properly.

If your new system has a floppy drive installed you can download for free a bootable floppy disk image then extract the content on to a blank floppy disk using another working computer.

Alternatively, get a bootable CD or DVD if your XP disc is not one.

Hope helps..

Congrats on assembling your own pc. What you need to do is set up your BIOS so that the first drive to be looked at is the CD drive. At that point you'll have to have some sort of an operating system installation disc to insert into that particular drive. Run the install from that disc. Good luck.

I actually just had this same problem not long ago..I was installing windows with a burnt copy but never had problems with it before...I finally figured out the jumpers on my cd-rom were wrong and once I corrected that, everything worked. It could be your disc, or you could just have a small jumper problem like I did.
