Desktops - January 2007

Even at the lowest volume setting, I can hear my music and such through my headphones, even when they're sitting on my desk. Is there a way to lower the overall system volume on mac OS X?

i have replaced mother board and then the cpu as well as the powersupple thinking it was one of them Even tried just plugging in one but that does not help either, no ram count or attempt to boot

I have a Gateway Media Center PC that worked fine up until a few days ago. I turn it on and it's stuck in a permanent boot cycle, it goes up to the boot screen then restarts. I removed it from my computer ant tried to hook it up to another machine as an external drive, and I see the recovery d: folder and have full access to it, but when I try to access the e: drive, where all of the data is, I get the message "The files or directory is corrupt" and I have no access. I have about 300gb of data on it, how can I get access to it to get my info?

Is there a site you can go to to get a free version of windows xp to reinstall your windows XP with to have a genuine version or do you have to buy it? isnt there some way around it so you dont have to buy it?

I saved a very very important document onto my floppy and I tranfered to a another computer and I says that I need to format the floppy. If I format my floopy will I lose any information. If I lose it I am seriously not graduating. What should I do.

I have windows vista RC 2 installed on my backup computer and i have been running it with 1gb of ram. i have had it running for 5 months now with no problems but recently (if you read my other question on media center) when i try to load a program i get a msg "system out of memory. please close some programs and try again" so i close some programs and it still doesn't work. I'm thinking this might be the problem to the media center but i am not sure on how to fix it. PLEASE HELP.

I have two 1 GB sticks on my MB now in dual channel setup, and i have two open lots that i would like to tick with two 512 MB sticks to give me a total of 3 GB, the most XP recognizes. I just want to make sure there are no issues with one channel having 1 GB sticks of PC2-4200 and the other two slots having 2 512 GB sticks.

Erm... My problem is this...
I know for a fact that I have Tons and I mean Tons of space left on my Hard drive but for some reason or another it is saying well... this... :

Used Space: 230 GB and Free Space: 2.05 GB =/ ...

What can I do to make it say the actual amount of Disk Space that I have because I've uninstalled Programs on the PC and my Mother has unistalled some of hers and it still says the same... =| ...

What can I do to rectify this problem apart from running Winternals ERD 2006 on my PC??? as I'd really only like to leave that for a last option as it takes forever to reinstall everything and my Father hates doing it and I'm not very keen on doing it myself so...

Can anyone please help???

There's a computer I'm interested in buying from the local classifieds where I live thats listed as a CUSTOM GAMING COMPUTER for $300. I have a dell demension 8100 running a intel Pentium 4 with Windows XP -sp2. It has started locking up when loading personal settings. I can start up the computer in safe mode and have run a virus check, defrag, and clean disk and even restored to earlier date. This happened before and I reformatted the hard drive about a month ago. Now its happening again. Any suggestions??? Could this be a hardware problem??

I can only put 167 wma files on my 2gb pen drive and I could only put 167 on my 1gb SD card. I thought my SD card was full so I bought a 2gb pen but it still only takes 167 files. I looked in properties to see how much space was left and it says there's 1.7gb empty space left. What do I need to do to get more wma files on it?

I have a thift store Dell Dimension XP Home Edition that worked excellent for six months but for some reason now is asking for a password during the boot up.
