The odds are that you don't have a licensed copy of windows. Turn off your automatic updates too because they use the valadation tool on some updates and it can shut your computer down or stop some functions. I bet you had a friend install your operating system or bought a used computer with it already installed. Use internet explorer 6, it will still work or pay microsoft licensing fee of anywhere from $50 dollars to $180.

You may have to click on the yellow bar at the top of your browser to install the Active X Control. You could also download the Client Validation Client as opposed to using the Active X Control.

Okay, this happened to me the other day
make sure when you're running the installation that your virus protection is turned off.
[This will allow the installation to connect to the Internet full]

This is assuming that you have a legal copy of Windows, if not then it won't let you install

it has to be Microsoft. and you have to know what type of microsof tyou ahve sp2 or sp1 or something, go to start run and type in winver you should then see what type you have.
