Hi OK I have a 250 GB Sata H.D.D. ...

Erm... My problem is this...
I know for a fact that I have Tons and I mean Tons of space left on my Hard drive but for some reason or another it is saying well... this... :

Used Space: 230 GB and Free Space: 2.05 GB =/ ...

What can I do to make it say the actual amount of Disk Space that I have because I've uninstalled Programs on the PC and my Mother has unistalled some of hers and it still says the same... =| ...

What can I do to rectify this problem apart from running Winternals ERD 2006 on my PC??? as I'd really only like to leave that for a last option as it takes forever to reinstall everything and my Father hates doing it and I'm not very keen on doing it myself so...

Can anyone please help???

Thanks a lot!!!

First, you could disable System Restore in the System properties of your computer. By default, it reserves about 7% of your HDD for restore points, so this would free up some space. Next, you could do a search for large files by click Start, Search and, in the Search Options, specify a lowest file size to find. Then, click the Size tab in the results to sort by largest files and see which ones you don't need. Be careful with this, though... you want to make sure that you don't delete required system files. Finally, when you have at least 15% free space on that drive, run a defrag and that will clear up more space by removing fragments on your drive.

Are you trying to say that you don't believe that you have used 230GB of space on the disc or that it says the disc capacity is 230GB instead of 250? its not that clear.

defragment the drive and see what it says after that, your disc may be written with 1s in what should be free space.

That is your actual amount. You never get what it says. It happens to all hard drives.

I have a 300gb hard drive but for me the total size is 279gb, its normal.
