I have already submitted this question once but I needed to add details to it because some of the answers I got won't work.

So I'm trying to reinstall windows XP on my Dell but a fatal error keeps occuring that prevents the setup from continuing. Here's what the log file says:

Error:
SXS.DLL: Syntax error in manifest of policy file "D:\I386\asms\52\MSFT\ WINDOWS\NET\DXMRTP\ DXMRTP.MAN on line 5.

Here's the other problem. I've been trying to find a way to delete the hard drive but everytime the computer reboots, it automatically restarts the installation setup at the point right before the fatal error. There are no other options except to just allow the installation to continue. The computer is a Dell. I was trying to find a way to manually delete the hard disk using MS-DOS but I can't seem to be able to do that either.

Any ideas? Best advice gets 10 points.

from someone elses computer download this program, and follow their instructions to make it a bootable floopy. This program totally wipes a hard drive. I have used it many times, and love it. http://www.killdisk.com/
then reformat with a win 98 boot disk, and redue install. You should be good from there.

So you're caught in a continuous loop huh, I had the same problem with 2 computers I was trying to format and reload windows. Turns out on both occasions the problem was hardware that I had added after the fact, and the disk I was using was first edition, not even SP1 so I guess it lacked some drivers. I would remove any hardware that wasn't installed with the unit and try to reinstall windows then. Lots of luck!

ok, so which you finished installation homestead windows. the reason you won't be in a position to setup the dial-up connection is because of the fact which you're able to desire to place in the drivers for the modem, now, the lacking information is yet another interest, while you're working along with your laptop then you definately would desire to examine what different drivers you pick so as to make your laptop runs easily, if there remains issues or you spot a blue demonstrate screen once you reboot your laptop, then the superb wager is to purchase a sparkling homestead windows so as to place in the lacking information. make specific once you're installation homestead windows to reformat your HD for undesirable sectores to be restored or marked for homestead windows to dodge utilising it.

Make a WinXP bootdisc (Floppy) >> http://bootdisk.com/ >>and go into the Bios to set win to boot from floppy first. Format hard drive using the bootdisc format command and restart installation from cd again. Don't forget to change Bios boot order to cd-rom first.

Clean your disk with dish washing detergent and water. Let it dry. Try to reinstall.
