I just got a new video card so that I can play Flight Simulator X. Everything works fine, but when i load a lfight and take off, the computer restarts suddenly. That crazy thing is that I can taxi all day, and do anything I want, but when the plane leaves the ground, the computer restarts. Is it the video card, I have turned down all of the graphics on the game as low as they go.

What is sufficient for flight sim X?

You will need a bigger power supply - at least 500 watts or so.

That thing is starving for power!

Your question is vague. Some cards like my Nvidea Geforce has a section where you can set your parameters of the card for certain games. Check out your video card icon on the bottom of the bar if you have one. Go to fileplanet.com and see if there is a patch for this game. It is possible this problem is known and a patch/update has been posted and you do not know about it. If you got your box, it will tell you the minimum you need on a video card. Also have you put a lot of add ons to your computer. A restart is indicative of power overload maybe. but ask around in fileplanet.com

Go to Event Viewer and look for errors in the application/system log files for clues on the shutdown

A new video card, something that is used for video games can use a lot more juice then your old one.

It's looking more and more likely that your PC is shutting down to prevent damage to the CPU.

If you can, go into your BIOS and check to see if under your Power Management (or similar) section you can see anything which would result in your system being shutdown when overheating. Any sort of thermal protection measures for example.

If your CPU is idling at 54C that is very hot for idle temperatures. You need to check your CPU heatsink to make sure it is firmly in place over your CPU core, make sure the fan is clean and not covered in dust, and make sure it is plugged firmly into the CPU fan socket for power.

In the short term take off the sides off your case and see if this helps reduce CPU temp and reduces crashes. It is likely that heat is a major contributor to this problem if not the sole cause.

Sudden shutdowns and reboots are often related to overclocked RAM and/or CPU, or even a Power Supply which is severely underpowered for your rig.

Wow.

Um, try reinstalling the game and the drivers for the graphics card.

I don't know what else might be causing it, there might be some weird bit of code that something in your computer doesn't like.

Don't know what might be causing it.....
