The flash drive will mount on the Mac and you will be able to transfer information both on and off the disk drive, permitted that it is formatted with the FAT file system. If it is formatted with the NTFS file system, the files will not appear, and the drive may not even mount.

The Mac (assuming it's not ancient) will then apply it's journaled HFS+ file system to the contents of the flash drive. The files will be hidden by the Mac, but when you put the drive back in the PC, the journaled files will be visible. Files like ._filename or ._trashes. This behaviour, although annoying, is perfectly normal. You can, however, through Unix commands through the Terminal or various hacking programs, turn this off by telling your Mac to not write journaled information onto external drives.

When you plug it in it is recognized as another hard drive and when you remove it any information transferred when it was plugged in remains until you delete the information.
