I have checked all the cables. I hooked up the monitor to another desktop and it works fine. I have hooked up another monitor to the desktop and it does the same thing. The desktop itself does not go to sleep.

At first I thought it was one of the TWO Maxtor hard drives I have installed - one of which is only a couple of months old and barely used, but I have Ghosted the drives making them both bootable and have disconnected one at a time. To no avail as the clicking noise continues regardless which drive is active. I guess they both could be bad, but what's the likelihood of that? Besides, when I use a cone to try to pinpoint the noise, it doesn't seem to be coming from the drives, but rather toward the back of the machine, but I don't know if that's real or echos. I have also disabled the case fan and processor fan but the clicking still continues. I'm down to the power supply, the only remaining movable part in the box that I can't shut off though the cone doesn't isolate the noise there. Could that be it? Any other ideas? It's a generic PC that has served me well for about 4 years now and I'm not ready to trash it... Help!!!

When my computer monitor goes into power saving mode my computer stops responding. I went into the control panel and reset the power options to never go on standby, but that didn't work. Whether I am working or not, the monitor goes into standby and I can't get it to turn back on. The last time I booted up it went straight into power saving mode before I had a chance to do anything! This is very frustrating! I spend most of my time online trying to keep my Website up to date and I can't afford downtime. Is this a hardware problem with the monitor? Is this a software problem with Windows XP home SP2? What is the problem here and can it be fixed? Should I take the monitor back to WalMart or do I need to reformat my hard drive again with Windows XP home SP2?

When I click Start in the lower left hand corner, so that I can select "Restart" or "Turn off the computer", if I click Restart or Turn off the Computer, the computer will not restart and will not turn off. This is a Comaq Presario 5100 desktop which I bought new 6 years ago. I am running Windows XP Professional which I bought and installed about 2 years ago. It has been about one month since I rebooted, and at that time I think it rebooted just fine.
I am wanting to push the button in on the tower to turn the computer off, but am afraid the computer will not turn back on again.
Any comments ?

Recently, I had some spyware on my computer and I removed it using the Norton Anti-Virus included with the Yahoo! Toolbar. Later, I heard that Norton sometimes messes up your desktop background so I deleted it, but my background still can't change. I can change the color but that's it; I can't change the image. And I've also been hearing about this "Active Desktop" thing, but what does it do? How do I turn it on?

When I bought my PC the guy told me it didn't have a game card. I want to play the new SimCity game, but I think I will need this card. When I search though nothing comes up for a game card, is it a graphics card that I need? or a video card maybe? And is it something I can install myself?

So I need to take out the original memory, put the new memory in that slot, then put the old memory in the other slot (slot 2). I tried this but it only registers 512MB and not 768MB it should be.

is it very hard to upgrade my internal 40 gig hard drive to say a 320 gig hard drive? is it possible to do this with limited computer knowledge, or should i pay for someone else to do it? is it sometimes not possible to do this, because the computer will not allow this ? i have a Dell Dimension 2400 desktop.

should i just buy an external drive, or are internal drives faster? the speed is important to me

I want to buy an external enclosure for one of my old hard disks but I don't know which size I need.

The top surface of My HD is roughly 3.5" accross and 5.25" lengthways, which are of course the two standard sizes!

Which one should I be looking at? Many thanks.
