I have a 40g hard drive and looking to upgrade, i looked on the dell website for upgrades but all they have were external hard drives. I have an external hard drive already. I am looking for internal, could i find any dell internal hard drives somewhere else? I looked on ebay, and that was no help.

If i migrated all of windows(requird)folders to an external hard drive, would that corrupt anything since the main drive is C?

Alot of updates are taking space on my hard drive and i usually have about 18-19.2g of free space. I'm down to about 16.0-16.5 of free space and my computer is slowing down. I do use disk clean up, and disk defragmenter. The only reason i havent fully used my external is because I didnt want to move important files that can damage programes.

First of all, why do you think you need to upgrade? Between your internal and external, you should have plenty of storage.
A hard drive is a hard drive...any IDE hard drive will fit in your Dell...

You don't need a Dell hard drive just a hard drive don't even think dell makes hard drives actually dell only get the computers together and then slap there name on the side . Go to any computer store and buy a western digital, maxtor just to name a few . Even Wallmart have hard drives and some times at a good price. Also you will need to find out what kind of hard drive you need ,but if your computer is about 2 to 3 years old most likely any hard drive you find in wallmart or such will fit OK. (tried to stay away from the technical words for the hard drive like SATA,ATA,IDE....)

You can buy alot of different component parts from tigerdirect.com and pcmall.com. It is not usually difficult to swap out a hard drive. There is usually an access panel on the bottom of the machine that is for swapping hard drives. Maxtor makes a Raptor series hard drive that holds 74 gb of files, but runs at a blazing 10k rpms. You would want to get a drive that runs at 5400rpm, or else your cpu would have to wait on the drive to locate the files so you could use them.

Most Dell's, especially the cheaper ones, like the 2400 only have space for one internal hard drive. What you need to do is uninstall all of your software that you've added to your internal drive (C:\ drive, in other words), and reinstall it, on your external hard drive.

A har drive is a hard drive. You should be able to go to any electronic store or even a Walmart and buy an IDE hard drive and it will work. Dell does not sell them because they can not ship them to you cheaper then you can buy them off the shelf.

I have a Dell Dimension 8400
Buy an external USD Drive, 200Gb for $99 and connect it to the USB Port, that is the easiest solution

You can buy a hard drive for your dell from anywhere that sells computer hardware. Try going to best buy or any other computer type stores. Just tell them how big your current hard drive is and tell them it's a IDE hard drive. If you are planning to replace it yourself, try not to work on carpet. Any static charge will fry your computer.

look interior your case to ascertain if there is room for a 2d inner. if so, then you are able to only circulate to any hardware business enterprise and get a properly suited force. does not must be a Dell. in certainty, once you open the case, you will see the form that Dell makes use of. only purchase a diverse form ! (examine on your equipment practise to ascertain this style of force you have).
