Again, there is a certain amount of the HDD that is reserved for the O.S. it's called the MBR. Service Pack 1 is the original Win XP. Service Pack 2 was a major upgrade to Win XP. These have nothing to do with MBR. Go ahead and install SP2, you can always uninstall it, I've done it a couple of times.

This is actually quite a common issue especially if your computer is a few years old. There is a limitation of 127GB in the BIOS, so regardless of how large your drive is the OS will only be able to use 127GB.
If you are using an Intel processor, the following download should fix the problem for you.

Just select your operating system.

through obstacles equipped into different aspects, INT13h (1994) extensions enable the BIOS to handle as much as 137 GB. For something bigger, you are going to need your great LBA. "This translation mode helps help for no longer elementary disks extra suitable than 137 GB. It makes use of 40 8 bits for addressing quite of 24 bits." (TIA, 222) What a lot of those potential for you is, the force you're installation needs to be regarded with the aid of the BIOS, that's equipped in on your motherboard. verify and notice no remember if there's a BIOS replace available or replace the motherboard or be content with a smaller force in this pc in the form a BIOS replace isn't available. Your pc can in basic terms handle 127 GB without that BIOS improve. you like LBA (Logical Block Addressing) help for something bigger. sturdy success, i wish this helps
