Ok my old cdrom drive is bad so i replace it now my computer doesnt detect new cd rom drive but it did when i put as slave cd rom drive how do i fix this.

I will be purchasing a new laptop this week and need to be sure the one I end up getting has an NTFS file system. Do I assume that any new computer with Vista on it has the NTFS file system or is this an option I'll have to look for when I configure the laptop?

We've been rubbed at home. We had a Dell Dimension 4700 desktop that has been stolen. Our insurance company is asking us to find out what would be the equivalent today. We've called Dell and we've been told that it would be E520. Insurance company doesn't seem to agree. Can someone confirm us what would be recplacing our Dimension 4700?

Couple of weeks ago I turned of my monitor and in the morning when I went to turn it back on it wouldn't work. All I had was a black screen. I pluged it into a different outlet and it wouldn't turn on either. It's a flat LCD screen, one where I can plug the TV in as well so I figured if it didn't turn on in a different outlet that I had blown.

So for 2 weeks I have been using our laptop but yesterday we got a really old monitor from someone just so we can go on our desktop to back up all my pics and programs because we've decided to just get a new computer.

But when I plugged in this old monitor it's not working either. When we just plug it in and turn it on a white screen appears but as soon as we plug it into the computer nothing happens.

So is it possible that the part that you plug the monitor into on the back of the computer has blown and did something to my monitor?

If so would someone know if it would be worth fixing or would it be to expensive, not worth it?

I have a DELL dimension 4600 pc. The hard drive crashed Christmas so I just got a new tower. I was gonna sell the DELL tower for parts or to someone who can fix it. It has Windows XP, CD/DVD burner. And the only thing wrong is the hard drive is shot. How much should I ask for it?

Whenever i'm installing my printer, i have my cd-rom in, and it's installing, then it ask for me to connect the USB cord, and turn on the printer. I do just that, and it won't ever pick it up. It will pick up the printer as a drive though, it goes under the removable storage drives under "my computer" and then sometimes it will says that an error occurred with the printer. But when i connect the printer to my laptop, it works just fine. I have a brother MFC 420-CN printer. if anyone can help me out, it would be great.

I'm a dummy with computers so please help. I have this very old laptop, which doesnt have a cd rom or a operating. When i turn on the laptop it states Error Loading Operating System. So i purchase an external cd rom drive, so when i plug it up and put the cd in. It still states Error Loading Operating System. I really dont know what to do im about to give up.

Hiya,
Can someone tell me what a processor is and what it actually does?
I have an intel celeron processor with 1.18 ghz and when my pal looked at it he sorta smiled and said "your processor aint so great" so it got me wondering what one actually is - whats a good one - how would one install it and what difference the thing makes to a pc - so if you are clued up on processors please fill me in on ANY info about them

Laptop is a Compaq Presario 1600.
The (c:) disk has a low capacity of 5.58 GB.
About 5.48 GB is used on the (c:) disk.
I use several programs, including iTunes, and I do not know about several programs or files on my computer.
My laptop currently has only one usb port.
