Hi..

Bear with me on this..
1) I recently had a problem with my laptop, that I put down to a battery problem.
2)Sent away and replaced the battery - with a new one.
Afer a week I realised the new battery wasn't charging properely.
Checked the battery and noticed it was a different battery than the one I originally ordered.
3)Sent off for correct battery.
4)Correct battery arrived after another week (in exchange etc).
5)Correct battery didn't charge - so thought I must have developed a power supply problem - (laptop was working of the initial charge off the batttry when it new battery arrived)..
6)Bought new power supply.

7)Now nothing is working. No lights on the laptop. Laptop is just (scaringly) dead..and the new battery doesn't charge at all.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance.

I have purchased a Dell Inspiron 640 m laptop. The specification says it has 8x DVD/CD Burner (DVD+/-RW).
So what DVD media should I buy, + or - ? I need to burn both data and video which should play in my standalone DVD player.

I have a gateway GT4016 desktop which I mostly use for games and other stuff. The computer currently has an AMD 64 Athelon 939 socket processor on a BTX motherboard (factory board), I was wondering if a 939 Dual Core AMD will work with this board. The computer has an upgraded power supply, extra RAM and an ATI video card. The current OS is Windows EX Media Center Edition. If the swap can be made what if any other changes must be made to the computer? Thanks.

I have read other responses about temperatures on the Pentium D, but I would prefer getting answers to my specific questions to my system, so here goes:

I recently built a new system including a Pentium D 820 on an nForce 570 motherboard, with a CoolerMaster CPU fan (see http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131032 and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103001 ). They are all in a Raidmax Smilidon case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156062 ) with 5 fans (4x80mm + 1x120mm).

However, I am becoming worried about the temp readings. While idling, it will drop down to around 45C, but when I get both cores running at 100%, it jumps up to a max of 56C. As soon as I lessen the load, though, it drops straight back down. Now, I realize that the Artic Silver 5 thermalpaste I used hasn't fully cured ("baked"), but should I be worried about these temps? What should I do?

Okay, so basically I was mowing... that's all you need to know <_<
My dad says he can fix it. But he hasn't yet, and I was wondering if this is something that I would be able to repair without any special tools or anything, maybe a tutorial or something...

A few weeks back my computer crashed, did a system check on my drives and then told me one of my internal hard drives could not be found (or the RAID wasn't working - I'm not entirely sure on those details). I finally got it working using an Intel Utility on my computer. Since then, the drive in my computer has been making a sound. The best way I can describe it is if you imagine the whirring sound a hard drive or a CD drive starting up - it continually sounds like it is speeding up then slowing down then speeding up etc. I would like to know if this is normal or if, for some reason, the drive is failing and being worked to hard since the crash and needs to be replaces. Thanks!

I recentlty dropped one of my harddrives and now it doesn't work. When I try to power it up all it does is play a sound like a little warning tune (which I didn't know harddrives could do) then grinds for a few seconds. I've had the cover off and the grinding appears to be the arm trying to move but not getting very far. Is there any way I can reset the arm? I'm fairly certain the actual discs aren't damaged. Can I take the discs out and put them in another harddrive? This was my backup drive and has about 200gig of data I could really do without losing.

I am trying to find a laptop for school and travel so it has to be reasonably light weight and have good battery life. I would also like a full sized keyboard and a track pad, not the eraser type thing if possible. Lastly, I do not want anything that is made in china like: dell, hp, apple, acer, or any other cheap brand out there, but may be inclined if it has all the features I am looking for. Thanks for any help and all info is appreciated.

It's actually for an Ei System 4411 laptop. I've had the original restore disc nicked, so I've loaded on another copy of XP, everything is OK, just the display is not right. You can't get hold of Ei drivers anywhere, there is no support page. If I can get hold of a driver that'll make the card work, I'll be satisfied. I can't even establish the type of card!
