If you have already installed windows, then you will need to get a 3rd part software called partition magic which is from symantec

If you haven't installed windows, you will be asked to create partitions... use the amount of space per partition as you want to have.

You can partition your drive 0 (C drive) before you install XP using the option to create a partition on the drive and specify the size - no less than 20 gb for XP as you'll need it. If you have more than one physical drive (drives 0, 1, 2 etc) you can partition them within XP by going to Start / Control Panel / Administrative tools / Compouter Management then under Storage / Disc Management.

This will show you all of your drives and what partitions are on them and their size and if they are formatted and how. To create a partition on a drive (you CAN'T do it on C drive (drive 0) and it won't let you) that contains no partition just click on the drive shown there and select create partition and decide how big you want it - 20%, 50% whatever. After creting the partition you have to go through a couple more steps which you will get a popup message about and format the partition.

Any data on that hard drive before you partition it will be lost so don't do it on a drive which has data on it unless it isn't needed.

There is also a program (never used it) called Partition Magic which supposedly can allow you to partition a drive in use by creating a partition in the unused space and even claims to be able to partition your C drive which is in use (but it says back up your data first - and if you only have 1 drive....). Personaly I wouldn't try doing that. If you stuff it up (even if it really isn't your fault) you will loose all your data and have to reinstall Windows and all your programs again.

Go out and buy a product called partition manager if it still exists, install it and you can make partitons off your original disk.

If you have a new disk to insall you can use the disk manager facility to create a partion by right clicking the blank volume, choose create partiton and choose the size you want. Once you create it format it and you can assign it a drive letter.

Remeber if you have already created the partition it gets messy to change it if you are a novice, hence partition magic or another tool.

If you are a beginner use Norton Partition Magic or Acronis Disk Director. The advantage is that you wont lose any data in the partitions. If you want more advanced use fdisk by using the start-up disk in DOS

It depends on your operating system. If you have Vista you can use disk management console however in XP it is impossible to repartition your drive without any data being lost. So you nedd to use some kind of 3d party disk management software. I'd recommend you Disk Director by Acronis which is very simple and you'll understand its simple wizard for sure.
