I am trying to find a laptop for school and travel so it has to be reasonably light weight and have good battery life. I would also like a full sized keyboard and a track pad, not the eraser type thing if possible. Lastly, I do not want anything that is made in china like: dell, hp, apple, acer, or any other cheap brand out there, but may be inclined if it has all the features I am looking for. Thanks for any help and all info is appreciated.

Mac/Apple is not something I would buy. The quality has gone down with their products over the past few years, and are also now being made in China.

Obviously you are mis-informed. DELL is made in china. Everything is actually shipped to them here in the US from their plant in Xiamen. Just do some research and you won't be happy with your results. Check out this article: http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/02_24/b3787031.htm

THE BEST THING TO DO IS PICK UP A COUPLE COMPUTER MAGAZINES AND READ THE REVIEWS. THEY'RE PRO'S AND DEAL WITH MORE COMPUTERS THAN THE AVERAGE PERSON EVER WILL.

#1 Dell is not made in China

#2 Dell is NOT made of cheap quality

#3 My 8 year old desktop, 5 year old desktop, 4 year old Inspiron 8600 Notebook and my current XPS 1210 are all working and I have never repaired them. So how can a cheap quality PC last for that long?

#4 I highly recommend Dell XPS 1210, which I have, because it comes with a full sized keyboard, just like what you asked for, and comes with a keyboard called " Silence." The notebook is just a little over 4 pounds, and last up to 8 hours of battery use.

#5 You can choose the Sony Ultra portable notebook, which weighs a little over 2 pounds, and lasts up to 10 hours of battery use.

Toshiba Satellite R-20 is a sweet $1,150 convertible laptop -- which means it is also a Tablet pc or a laptop with full keyboard (except for no # keypad). With OneNote, you can write notes in class by writing with the stylus and you can either save your handwriting or convert into a typed Word document.

Let's say you have a very important college lecture, you can use OneNote to take your notes, and record the speaker's talk. To re-listen to the one part you need, just scroll to your notes and it will only play the audio for that portion.

I have one and just love it! I do recommend buying the store's extended warranty. Laptops tend to get bumped and jostled a lot more, so more likely to fail.

I don't know how Toshiba can sale them at this price, but they are an excellent unit!

Good luck!

If Mac is an option, I would suggest the mac.

They can run both mac and Windows programs, are a little less prone to viruses, and they tend to encourage the artistic side of any major in school. No down sides to that choice.
