Couple of weeks ago I turned of my monitor and in the morning when I went to turn it back on it wouldn't work. All I had was a black screen. I pluged it into a different outlet and it wouldn't turn on either. It's a flat LCD screen, one where I can plug the TV in as well so I figured if it didn't turn on in a different outlet that I had blown.

So for 2 weeks I have been using our laptop but yesterday we got a really old monitor from someone just so we can go on our desktop to back up all my pics and programs because we've decided to just get a new computer.

But when I plugged in this old monitor it's not working either. When we just plug it in and turn it on a white screen appears but as soon as we plug it into the computer nothing happens.

So is it possible that the part that you plug the monitor into on the back of the computer has blown and did something to my monitor?

If so would someone know if it would be worth fixing or would it be to expensive, not worth it?

Chances are something other than the video card has failed; video card failures are a very low percentage of computer problems.

You can probably pick up a cheap video card from a local computer shop for under $20, but before doing that, check the following:

1) When you turn on the computer, do you see any lights flashing on the drive(s) or hear any beeps?
If not, make sure the computer is getting power. If it is, then something inside may have died. Could be a fuse, a power supply, the CPU; all sorts of things. Does the fan on the power supply come on? If not, there's a power issue somewhere.

2) If you do see lights and/or hear a beep and the power supply fan is on, can you hear the hard drive being accessed? If not, maybe the cable has become loose. This happens sometimes when a computer is moved from one spot to another, or can happen due to metalic reactions (gold to silver color connections do this.) Try reseating the drive and power connectors.

3) Are there two different monitor connections? If so, you may have a built-in video card and an external video card and your BIOS was changed to use one vs. the other. Connect the monitor to the other and try starting the computer. If that works, then you'll need to change your BIOS to use the correct one. If this is the case, this may indicate your battery is getting weak.

4) If the above are not the issue, then it may be someone needs to take a look at the machine.

It could be your video card, maybe it could have come loose in the slot or just failed alltogether, if you can get your hands on another videocard try that, there not that expensive you can get them at walmart just make sure it is able to work with your motherboard.

that is no longer the FBI's interest to video reveal computers... there's a 2d government branch that video reveal the use of the information superhighway and computers, the business enterprise in question works on the component of the FBI! so particular it incredibly is criminal!
