Hardware - February 2007

All of my USB ports are already occupied (10 of them), and so are all PCI slots (2) on the motherboard. What do you recommend I do to my current computer, and is it possible to get a computer with like 5 PCI slots?

I know there's nothing I can do to increase the number of PCI slots on the current motherboard. But is a motherboard with 2 or 3 PIC slots normal? I have a TV tuner, fax modem, and sound card to put in the PIC slots. The current 2 are not enough to accomodate them. And in the future, I may need more than 3.

Hi. I have a Canon Pixma iP3000. Changing from portrait to landscape is easy. The problem is I cannot get back to portrait AND, "have it stay there". Each time I return to print, it has set itself back to landscape & no matter what I do, it just keeps returning to landscape. I have tried everything I can think of to get it to stay on portrait, but without success. It should be simple. BUT. & yes I do press OK after setting the page to portrait.

when i want to connect to internet . i receive theis message:"the modem is already in use or not configured property...". and when i query my modem in device manager i receive this messgae: "the port could not be opened...".

My friend's computer tonight is acting up- half the screen is covered with different colored thin bars (like digital static) and you can see the screen still behind it and things still work, but you cannot see what you're doing. CNTR-ALT-DELETE is not helping and retarting it isn't either. How do I fix it?

hi,i am planning to buy a new cpu,but i can't decide that whether to go for intel or amd??
i would be using the cpu mostly to play games on it,and oher usual stuff!!!
as i have a limited budget so,
i am planning to go for anything between amd athlon(939) 64-3000+ to 3800+,plz suggest which one should suit me more???
or should i look at the xpencive amdx2(am2)???

which option is better in hard disk for performance.
single hard disk with large capaity or two hard disk first is for operating system and second is for data only.

at first i was considering buying a new macbook after the release of leopard, then someone told me about the refurbished option....do these offer the same 3 yr. extended warranty, what software options do they have (office, garage band etc.) how do they stack up against a brand new macbook....any info on these would be greatly appreciated..............THANKS

I saved all my music to an ipod before formatting my PC and after I put them back I can't play them any more. it automatically opens the internet when I try to play them.

I tried to put other Music player instead of Media Player then K-lite codecs but still there is no diference.

A friend told me that it's impossible to play them anymore because when I copied those music my media player was in "Right Protection" option.

I have this hard drive that I had on a computer with windows 98. My computer is not working anymore so I bought a hard drive enclosure to get the files from this hard drive but my xp can not even read it. I connected it to the usb as an external drive but it does not even show on my computer. The other hard drives I have work perfectly with the enclosure. I don't want to lose the files I have on this hd.. Can somebody please help.

All it does when I turn it on is make 3 beeping noises and then shows me a black screen.

So, I'm debating whether to buy a new CPU, motherboard and RAM simply because my motherboard does not support PCI express. I am ready to upgrade from my 6600 yet am unsure whether now is a good time for that.

according to some of the folks I asked there should be a section in the BIOS allows me to do " jumperless overclock " but I just cant find it. so I figured it should be done in some other ways....

how ? is there a software of something I should download ? and physical moderfication on the cpu it self ?

I read overclock.net's guide and my board's BIOS is different from what's being said in the thread.

I dont have an option of playing around my CPU's setting " manually". the only things that are in my " CPU settings " section are:

VID CMOS setting : 62
max cpu id value limit: disable
cpu interneal thermal control: auto

Hyper threading tech: enable.

on the top of those things are my CPU's current setting but all texts are darken.

i have this problem,i log out of my pc and turn the back switch off right and i turn my moniter off and speakerss ,,well i turn it all off,,but when i wake up in the morning i want to turn my pc on right so i turn the moniter on,,speakers on then,,then i go for my switch behind the computer box and turn that on then i go to the front and push the power butten on and nothing happeens,well i push buttens again off/on/ i go threw this forrrrrrr like a hour more or less its up to the pc and it is verey stressing. like what is the deal is there somthing wrong,,,should i leave the back switch on at all times and only log out and just push the off andon butten only and just leave the the backswitch to the box alone,,,well last nite i loged out and just turned the butten off in the front of the box off and didnt touch the back butten and when i woke up i turned it on and it worked i didnt have to mess around with the pc to boot it up whatever that means,so is it safe to leave the back switch?
