Why isn't there volume?

I've tried playing iTunes, I've turned the volume up to max, but there's no sound. Also, when I turn it up, I can't hear the sound "preview". I have a new Mac 20 inch desktop. What's the matter?

Do you hear other sounds if not then you need to install mac compatible sound driver.

could be the sound card...not really sure on that. But if you say its new call up Apple for more information. I'm sure its nothing big. good luck =]
