I tried to upgrade my hard drive from 20GB to a 30GB ide but e bios does not see the new hard drive. Can anyone provide specs or a list of compatible hard drives for my system?

I forgot to mention that jumpers are set as master and I have also tried setting it on cable select. Neither one works.

Contacting Gateway is absolutely helpless. They just want to sell you a hard drive and won't provide any information.

The most common mistake in attaching a new hard drive is the fact that the jumpers have to be in the right position. Look near the power outlet on your hard drive and make sure that the white thingy (Jumper) is located correctly. Check out this link to see a picture of what I am talking about. All hard drives are different so look around on it to find the jumper configuration and put it on correctly. You will want it on either single drive or master.

Thanks,
Charlie
