Hardware - February 2007

I will be buying the new Macbook soon. I know Apple has an education store that offers big discounts but are there any others? Any1 have any coupons or codes or websites or any tips on how to save even more $$? Are the Macbooks due for an upgrade? If so when? And will that make the Macbooks that are currently out cheaper? Any help on getting the most for my money when it comes to Mac will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Which is better Video Card x1950xt 512MB VS 8800GTS 320MB?
They both cost $300.The 8800GTS has directx 10 compability but x1950xt doesnt(who cares about it now anyway).The x1950xt has more memory.But What about performance which is faster?Which one do you think I should get?

I am looking for a laptop for my boyfriend that would be good for basiclly school work. Also it would be good if it had a decent amount of memory (for music mostly). I am not really looking for anything fancy just reliable and good for travelling. My boyfriend might be kind of rough with it so I am not sure. I have a toshiba laptop that I love but I am not sure it will work for him, what do you guys think?

I bought a core 2 duo that came with a heatsink and the directions didn't say anything about using any thermal interface material. The last couple computers I've build I used some material on the CPU and heatsink am I right in saying this PC won't need any??

my friend got water spilled on a laptop about a year ago. it has been working fine ever since. now, it stopped working. the computer store said it was as a result of corosion. would this be possible after such a long time? Could this be a result of other water damage after the fact?

Has been working fine. Couple days ago a page came up, said "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage." Did the "Diagnose Connection Problems" thing got nothing. Ran a Troubleshoot and got a red flag on the LAN. The Network Connections show a connection in the Internet Gateway and the Wireless Network Connection but the Local Area Connection says "Network cable unplugged. Fire..." We have another computer on Wireless with no problems. Where do I go from here? Geeks only please.

I've had this motherboard for nearly 2 years with no problems. It has been fine with my Athlon XP 3200 CPU until recently.

Now, for some reason, my XP 3200 is reported in my BIOS and Windows as an XP 1900. I can see what the problem is, it won't let me have a 200 FSB anymore, but I can't figure out why. It tells me my FSB can go from 133 to 165 in increments of 1.

It picks my DDR 400 up fine but not my CPU. I've tried flashing the bios, using fail-safe defaults and optimized defaults in my BIOS, but to no avail.

I've removed the HSF, cleaned the HSF and CPU, applied new thermal compund and reseated the CPU, but still it comes up as an XP 1900.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

In Windows XP if you go to control panel and select Performance and maintenence then adjust visual effects rhen go to the Advanced tap and look under Virtual memory. What is the difference between that and the physical RAM you could for example buy from Circuit City.
