I've had good dell laptop, and right now have a hp pavilion zd8000 and it works great, with laptops the ones that I've had hard drive problems with were ones that were on all the time. I've got 3 toshiba's at work that out of the 3, 2 of them had hard drives fail 2 times after about a year of use.. Really what you need to look at is the equipment that is going in the laptop and what the MTBF is on those items, even with that it won't guarantee that you won't have problems. All in all if you have a good warranty with the laptop you should be good to go.

Hello. I am sorry to hear that you have to replace your hard drive twice... Note that all computers experience unfortunate occasions. However, a neighbor of mine had to replace his Sony motherboard twice, while other people say they will never shop with HP again because they make poor quality products, which is logic, and people who buy mac pc barely can afford to repair it once become defective because Mac charges a lot.
Another story I came across was about Alienware. People complain so much that alienware computers fry too much.
Back to Dell. Although dell is not perfect, they make sure to repair customers PCs at low price and even for free if your PC is under warranty... I would suggest another dell. Why? Because Dell is one of the best PC manufactors world wide... Dell supports the largest LCDs, the most advanced GPU ( Graphic card) one of the most fastest CPU ( Processor) available today... All you need to do next time when your computer become detective, go to dell.com, click on the support link and click on LIVE Chat. Talk to one of Dell's trained Technicians and in less than a week they will repair your notebook... Just bear in mind that all computers have their unique faults. The customer service is what you should always observe to.
Bye now.

I also got a little sick and tired of dell's issues. I have purchased 3 new laptops for work in the last 8 months from the hp website, and have gotten excellent results. And as an added bonus, thier techs speak real clear English!!! So I would recommend you check out their website. Also cnet has a pretty in depth laptop comparison. Hope this helps.

Dells are the shittiest laptops, but are the cheapest. If you want good quailty and support, go with HP. Gateway offers some nice lookin laptops tho....
