My friend's computer tonight is acting up- half the screen is covered with different colored thin bars (like digital static) and you can see the screen still behind it and things still work, but you cannot see what you're doing. CNTR-ALT-DELETE is not helping and retarting it isn't either. How do I fix it?

This happened to my old monitor. It made the whole screen orange... Check the back to see if the plug came off from the computer. If thats not the problem, then its broken. Just go replace it. Monitors cost like 20$ in Best Buy. Monitors alone... not wit computer...

Assuming that the side that does not have different colored bars looks normal, it sounds like it could be two things.

One, if it is an LCD display, it could be a problem with the image converter or some of the ribbon cables that send data to the LCD.

You can test to see if it is the monitor by hooking up the monitor to a different computer.

If the monitor works fine on the other computer, then it is probably his video card. See if you can find another video card to test it with.

The monitor might have gone bad or have a loose or broken cable but the problem could also be cause by interferance.

Check by the monitor for anything electrical or magnetic. An electric fan for example, or unshielded or poorly shielded speakers which are both electrical and magnetic. You'll be able to tell right away if something is causing the problem if you move it away farther from the monitor and the static goes away.

you should have a Degauss decision interior the video show gadgets OSD menu. try hitting that some circumstances. notwithstanding, you'll favor to attend about 20 minutes between cycles for the degauss circuit to reset correct. If that could no longer having an result then take the computer screen to a television restoration save and they are going to be in a position to apply a much extra helpful degauss wand or ring on it. it is going to take about 30 seconds to revive. i'd strongly propose adverse to strapping magnets to a drill. that appears like a reliable thanks to get a magnet embedded interior the wall, or perhaps worse in you.
