Just follow the directions that came with the printer.

If you don't have them, first get the drivers for the printer from HP's web site. You can also find the installation instructions there.

Install the driver software, then plug the printer into the power, then connect the usb cord to the printer and finally into the computer. The computer should start up the install process for you.

Assuming you are using XP, just plug it in. If you have a driver on CD put the CD in the slot. XP will tell you it found new hardware and ask you if you have a disk or if you want Windows to search for a driver. Indicate you have a driver. XP will walk you through the process. Easy.
