So, I'm debating whether to buy a new CPU, motherboard and RAM simply because my motherboard does not support PCI express. I am ready to upgrade from my 6600 yet am unsure whether now is a good time for that.

I have an Athlon 2.1Ghz with 2Gb ram...

So, to upgrade the entire system or buy just a new AGP card?

It's never a good time to upgrade anymore....with the newer 680 sli boards coming out they're well overpriced as are the $400 grahics cards to run in them.

It used to be simple enough to upgrade a card every so often but with the price increases they've got now it's easier to just throw a few hundred bucks towards and xbox360. You'll get full game support for easily 5 years without chasing your tail upgrading hardware.

A faster AMD processor is now under $100. You can probably get a new AGP card for under $150 and get a very good one. Unless you're thinking of upgrading to Windows Vista and play hardcore games, you'll be fine.

u should get a cpu becouse if i cant support pci express then i wont be able to handle 2 vid cards, and besides if its clocked higher it will run better with ur 2 gigs

oh yeah stick with windows XP cuz vista takes 1 gig ram to run while xp needs only 128 ram

That is like deciding whether or not to buy a new car to go with the tires you got at the retread store. On the other hand all new stuff would probably have other neat features and be fun to install.
