We've been rubbed at home. We had a Dell Dimension 4700 desktop that has been stolen. Our insurance company is asking us to find out what would be the equivalent today. We've called Dell and we've been told that it would be E520. Insurance company doesn't seem to agree. Can someone confirm us what would be recplacing our Dimension 4700?

Thank you very much :)

Good luck on getting your insurance company to cooperate. In the meantime, Dell is correct. Either the E520 or E521 would be the replacement (price wise) for your Dimension 4700, according to PC Mag, http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1779127,00.asp the 4700 retailed for $699 and the E520/521 cost $679/$649. Price wise that is an accurate statement BUT is your insurance company willing to accept the original full retail value of the D4700 since it is a little old(er). I guess you'll have to resolve that with your insurance but Dell did give you an accurate statement.

Since you're older computer was stolen... I'd begin changing ALL your passwords and calling credit card companies (if you used autofill) to get new cards issued. They probably stole your computer for personal information rather than the parts (though that is a plus).

The 4700 is a basic computer, P4 etc.

The E520 however, is available in many models, from below the 4700 to many times faster.

So yes and no, depending on the specs on the E520, probably yes. If you gave us more info, we could give a more definate answer.
