The shortcuts on your desktop does not really take up a lot of disk space you may want to uninstall some programs that you're not using from Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
The shortcuts on your desktop can be deleted by selecting them and deleting. If this does not work, you can delete them by browsing this path
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

Is it on the equipment Tray (next to the clock?). the job Bar runs alongside the backside of the reveal yet there's a vertical separator that divides the job Bar from the equipment Tray. Icons are put in the equipment Tray via a Startup technique or in case you run particular classes they might upload an icon for the duration of runtime e.g. in case you commence your printer and deliver a printjob to it. If an icon is often there then it launches at boot time. you are able to quickly disable some thing in case you extraordinary click the icon.

In Windows... Start/Control/Panel/Add-Remove Programs. If you just don't like all the icons on your desktop but don't want to delete the programs - right click and New /Folder. Name the Folder(s) as you would best categorize the items on your desktop. Then drag and drop the icons into the folders.

Just go to start-control panel-add/remove programs. Click the program(s) that you wanted to uninstall and that should take it off and free some space.
