no there are none. it would cost you $1000 or more to have it recovered. it is lost. you can also call western digital and tell them you want to do the upgrade program. doing this, you'll get a bigger HDD for alot cheaper than you could in a store.

There are some things you can try, but it they all fail, the only way to _maybe_ get them back is a commercial data recovery service.

Note that these techniques are as LAST RESORT. Each of them has worked at least once for me in the past (I did PC repair for several years):

1) Remove the drive, place the edge on a desk, lift the front end off the desk and left it fall down onto the desk. The effect is to "smack" the front of the drive down onto the desk. The theory here is that this may jar a stuck head loose enough to recover data onto another device. Repeat a couple of times if needed.

2) Place the drive in a ziploc bac in the freezer for three hours. Remove from the bag and try option 1 above. Theory here is that the cold will shrink the internal metals and allow the stuck head to move with the jolt above.

I need to find the document of known techniques... I can't find it be there's one that lists many other options.

if the disk isn't making any sound you can usually try to run it from an external hard disk case and link it to the usb port and try to recover what you can to the PC hard disk. Other than that you can try check disk it might be able to repair it partially so u can get your data. always while connecting it externally.
Now if your hard disk is making noise when it runs there's a non scientific way but it's effective ( keep it for last coz after that you are to throw the hard disk away) : which is to put the hard disk in the freezer after 24 hours you might be able to recover some data within 30 mins or so before the hard disk is totally damaged and unrepairable.

Yes you are in luck maybe, try switching the jumper on the hdd to slave and just plug it into another ide on another computer and it will show up as a second drive. This makin it able to copy files off. If the Hdd is totally bad then it's a waste and data is no-recoverable.

Data recovery from hard disc is possible in certain cases like accidental deletions, hard disc failures etc. I find the information at http://fixit.in/datarecovery.html is more useful…..!
