My manufacturer is Hewlett Packard.
I try to access to my default gateway, which I can access to by typing http://192.168.1.1 into my firefox, but it asks me for my username and password and I don't know what it is.

Some people say it's always admin for both, or blank for username and admin for the password. But either way, I type it and it keeps saying "401 Authorization Required". Which means I got it wrong. Someone help me with this please? Thank you

Got a question for network gurus. We're getting a sporadic problem here in which Web browsers (Firefox/IE both) tell us a site is unavailable, but other apps (IM, Outlook, and ping) can connect to the net just fine. I've tried ipconfig /flushdns, and ipconfig /all shows that we're hitting the ISP's DNS servers. Any ideas on stuff to look at? Any recommended sites/forums for troubleshooting this?

Hello. I need to run an ethernet cord to a different part of my house. The only problem is the ethernet cord is a tad bit too short. I know quite a bit about splitting cords and running neon lights and such in automobiles. Is it possible to take the ethernet cord that I have now and cut it and another cord and hook these together by splitting the cables inside? Thank you for all your help in advance.

I've added a new 2003 SP1 Server box to our existing domain, and plan to make it the DC. We currently run a 2000 Server environment. Here's my gameplan:
(1) Run 'adprep /forestprep', 'adprep/domainprep', then 'adprep /domainprep /gpprep' on my existing 2000 servers
(2) Run 'dcpromo' on the new 2003 server to make it a DC
(3) Migrate FSMO roles to new 2003 DC
(4) Demote existing 2000 DC using 'dcpromo'
(5) Retire the 2000 server box

Are there any steps that I'm missing? Any gotcha's to look out for?

When using Ethernet with more than 1024 nodes, the 5-4-3 rule must be followed. 5 segments separated by 4 switches, and no more than three of the segemnts can have nodes (computer, printer, etc). What are the other two segments used for?

Independent Mortgage Broker of 21 years, working out of my home for the past 2 years, originate loans online, pull credit reports and list & sell real estate. Hired IT Tech to setup small remote server for new bus venture and totally crashed system!!!

Out of business for the past year, due to rootkits, trojans, virus', keyloggers, winword macros, etc., I am very anxious to get back to work.

I have 4 computers with Windows Professional XP Media Edition OS, a VPN router with hardwire and 2 WPA2 Encrypted Wireless Networks, a static IP Address, etC

WOULD LIKE TO TRACK AND PROSECUTE BUT MUST GET BACK TO WORK 1ST! PLEASE HELP!!

my daughter has desktop PC upstairs with a wireless router, my son runs his laptop from this and i have just got another desktop (not brand new) and want to run this from the router as my son does.I ahve bought a Belkin wireles USB network adaptor and installed it but i cannot get an internet connection even though the signal is strong. Icon at the bottom left of screen tells me 'limited or no connectivity' I don't know where i've gone wrong or why i cannot get an internet connection. I would really like some help please. I'm not really PC literate, so please be kind!!!

I have ping both and are working, can access internet through both, I am a newbie to this! Have tried with firewalls turned off, still doesnt work! I can see desktop on laptop, but denied access. cant see laptop on desktop?????

use a linksys wag54gs router and laptop adapter.
router/modem connect through Desktop pc(ethernet), laptop accesses via this connection.(wireless)

I'm having trouble installing a new motorola 5120 cable modem, the problem is when I run the installation software, it doesn't detect the modem (connected via ethernet), but my PC's local area connection icon shows a connection at 100 Mbps. Everything else seems to be fine the cable company reads a good signal coming from the modem when they ping, the lights on the modem don't seem indicate that there's a problem. When I open the device manger and look at the connection, it shows a number in the received column, but reads 0 in the sent column. My modem is registered & talking to the cable company on the phone didn't help, they're sending a service guy out, but of course that takes almost 2 weeks.
If anyone can give me some ideas that may help it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Also, using the usb ports doesn't work either, so I don't think it's the ethernet cable.

Do I need a router just to hook up a second computer to my cable modem? I have an ethernet cable ... Can't I just hook the ethernet cable up to my cable modem thats hooked up to the other computer? Not very good with computers so if this is possible I need to do anything else .. let me know.. thanks

is the ip address of the adsl modem is the same for everyone?

because a user said that mine ip address is xxxxxxxxxxxx... How was he able to tell the ip address of mine. (this doesnt mean that what he said is correct)

Now, is the ip address of the adsl modem is the same for everyone using diff comps at diff places?

Hi iam using an adsl modem (BSNL). My ISP service man, while installing my modem to my comp for the first time, defaultly set the user id & password. Now When i turn on my modem, the internet connection automatically gets turned on. But i dont want to be like this. I want to manually enter the User id & pwd each time i connect to the internet. It is possible to change the setting. I require your help to fix this problem by giving me detailed procedures to make the settings.
