There are many ways to find your IP address, yeah, only by chatting with you on yahoo messenger..

And you can find information about IP addresses and global positioning at: http://www.ipgp.net

Some notes on IPs,

Your browser sends your ip with it, so I can access my server logs and see the IP of every site that has visited me. That's one way someone can repeat your IP back to you. I wouldn't worry though.

For a router there is an ip that is assigned by you provider dsl/cable, etc...

From there each computer that connects to the rounter will get it's own IP from the DHCP.

Each of these pcs is a unique IP. I am not sure about the IP comming from the provider.

The reason I say I'm not sure if the provider is unique is because I know that IPs are scarce, and they can be shared when it comes to servers.

For example if you have a shared hosting account with someone you are not the only one on that IP.

They take an IP in an Apache server for example and they setup virtual hosting allowing many servers(so to speak) exist on that IP.

bottom line is I wouldn't be concerned over it.

The external IP address for the modem is assigned by the service provider. So, today you may be assigned 123.456.789.10, but tomorrow if you recycle the power on the modem, it most likely will get a different IP address.

Yes, someone else can see that IP address. If you have a router between you and the modem, then your PC's IP address is probably something like 192.168.x.xxx, but that address isn't available past the router (unless you've made some config changes to the router to allow it.)

IP address are external and internal.
Internal means between your local area networks. It usually starts with 192.168.x.x. Your ADSL modem have its own default gateway IP address. e.g. 192.168.1.254
If you connected with a person through LAN, then you'll get IP address 192.168.1.x and other person 192.168.1.y. he can scan the range IP address through any programs.each time you'll get different IP address(dynamic).

external - when you connected to internet you will get external IP, so you'll have now 2 IP adresses. this also will change when each time u connected(dynamic). Or If your ISP provide a static IP, you'll have only one IP address.

If you setup a homenetwork wizard, he can view your sharing folders through his computer.( your computer name and your IP address)

no, no else can have you adsl ip address. your address is a unique number provided by your ISP and no else can use it becuase it would cause a conflict, its basically like your street address. imagine if someone else had the same street address. what happens to your mail? samething applies for the internet, now, it is very easy to track someone's ip address, specially if you use messenger. but dont worry, there's only so much they can do with your broadband internet. if you have your firewall and antivirus one, you are ok.
