I travel extensively and my laptop is set up to use the wired connector for connecting to the internet. I have to use the wired connector for security reasons, not because I don't have one.

The problem is some of the newer hotels are using In-room wireless connectivity and don't have the option of connecting through a RJ-45 connector.

Is there a device that will pick up the wireless signal and give me RJ-45 connector to hook a cable up to my laptop?

I have just bought a buffalo wbmr-kg54 modem router to set up a network. My old wire modem is connected to the phone line and then to my computer via a usb connection. However when i connect the router i cant establish an internet connection. Therefore when i try to go to the configuration page 192.168.11.1 i cant because there is no connection. Similarly when i use the old modem there is an internet connection but i am unable to go to the configuration page as it return page is not available. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have been stuck on this for about 2 weeks. Please help!!!!

I want the network to go like this, cabel modem from charter communications to a wireless router (this part works fine) then to go to my desktop pc threw wireless and from the desktop to a wired router to my xbox 360 and another computer. I have all supplies and LAN cables to make this happen so far but I cant get internet on my 360 or the other computer (i have internet connection on and the router is set with auto obtain ip and DHCP on) please help me figure out what settings i need to change to make this work :) I am fairly computer literate so I will probably figure out what you tech people are talking about :). It should be noted that if i connect the computer to the 360 or the computer individually the internet works on both but with the router (so I don't have to switch cables) it does not.

thanks in advance!

I have read somewhere that on a wireless N network, it would take the "slowest" speed (which is 54 mbps) if for example, you have 2 usb 54mbps wireless g adapters and 1 usb wireless N adapter. So, in effect, the "N" usb wireless adapter would only function at 54 mbps. Is this true?

Hello,
I have to setup a wireless network to connect to the office, but a few people have told me that they have issues when using software over VPN that creates socket connections. Has anyone who uses VPN over a router experienced issues with software applications ??

When VPN is enabled on a home PC that is connected to a wireless router, are there 2 IPs for that PC? And how can this be changed ?

Thank you!!

I know some of these questions are kind of dumb, but I just want to make sure I understand some things.

1. what is PPPoE and DHCP?(something like that)
you need to use one or the other when setting up a wireless router right? how do you know which one to use?

2. each computer needs a wireless adapter when sharing internet including the host computer right?

3. the software that comes with the wireless router needs to be installed on the host computer and the one you're going to be sharing internet with?

4. how hard is it to go from 2 computers (desktop and laptop) sharing internet to 3 (desktop....I'm not sure if this will happen)? is setting up home networking more difficult when the computers have different systems (desktops have XP and the laptop has Vista)?

5. what needs to be the same on both computers when setting up the wireless router and adapter to share internet? (I know theres something that needs to be the same....PPPoE or DHCP maybe?....or what else?)

I want to have a business network with the Windows Server acting as the DHCP server while using a Cable Internet connection running through a Linksys router and allowing NON business computers internet access.

I want to be able to share internet access with business network computers and non business computers.

The server should act as a DHCP server to business network computers and the Linksys router to non-business computers as well as wireless computers.

Is it possible??

Is there another way to do it?
I need the wireless internet access and need to provide internet access to personal computers that should not have access to the business network.

How can I do this?/
