Wouldn't that be the most awesome mod ever? And then add a chat box or a webcam field or something to see people expressions...it's over a LAN so dvd-quality video could be achieved...

I almost always use my wireless connection. Of course with Vista the majority of the time I'm fighting with keeping a connection but oh well. My question has to do with switching back and forth. My boyfriend has high speed cable internet and uses an ethernet cord. There are no codes/passwords/etc needed to get it to work. When he uses it on his computer he has full internet access - when I use it on mine I have local only. I was present when the cable was installed and there were no changes made to my boyfriends computer in order for the lan to work. He also uses wireless so I'm confused as to why mine won't work.

Is there anything I can do to allow my computer to connect through the lan? I'm new to Vista and not quite sure exactly what to do and where to look when it comes to certain things.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I have Windows Vista on my new Gateway laptop. I have tried to connect it to a Wireless network, and it has worked previously, but it has just started to stop working. It tells me that I am connected to this network, and that I have a connection, but I'm not connected to the internet. Then a message box pops up, and says that there is already another computer on this network that has the exact same IP address. What gives? And how should I resolve this issue? I have run all diagnostic features Microsoft recommends, including unplugging my router for a prolonged amount of time. PLEASE HELP ME.

I've been putting a lot of thought into it lately, and I just can't figure it out... Linux is free, customizable, versatile, simple, and prettier than Windows, yet Windows still holds a huge share of the OS market.

However, their large share is dropping. I attribute this to the iPod craze, and people becoming more familiar with Apple's products. Their OS market share almost tripled this year alone!

But why is Linux stuck with just a 2% or so share? I think it may be the inability to unite under one name, and that makes it a bit confusing for the computer novice to get started with a distro.

I think Linux is poised to spring now. Wal-Mart has started selling Ubuntu-based computers, and Dell is starting to make them. Do you think this will impact Linux's market share drastically?

Perhaps it's Linux's lack of software- and game-developer backing, or maybe the lack of advertising, but I can't figure out why Linux systems have kept such a small market share all this time...

I am using a laptop wirelessly and connecting to an access point. The printer that I want to connect to is connected directly to another computer (by a USB cord).

Whenever I try to connect to this printer through the wired computer, it gives me an error message, saying that the operation could not be completed. The printer is currently being shared, and file and printer sharing is on.

I have a wireless network at home. My laptop is connected, and I have found that when I am downloading files at high speeds (150Kb/s and higher) the wireless network connection becomes "unavailable". I have to reset the router every time it cuts out to fix and bring the network back up. Why is this happening?

I am using a Linksys 4 port router to connect 2 laptops through wireless for internet, one desktop which uses an ethernet cord and one playstation 3 which connects through wireless. My problems is networking the 3 computers together which I have been able to accomplish but when one of my laptops connects to the desktop to either print or obtain files, the playstation is kicked off of the router and loses its internet connection. I cannot figure out how to fix this. To add to the mix, my son wants to connect his playstation to the internet which would be done using an ethernet cable.

I am basically wondering if:

1. The 4 point router can only support 3 computers/playstation or if I can hook up an additional playstation. would be 3 wireless and 2 ethernet cable

2. What I can do so that the playstation is not kicked off when one of the laptops connects to the desktop. What am I doing wrong?

But my motherboard has Ethernet! I just destructive restored my computer last night, before then the Ethernet connection on my motherboard worked just fine.

Will I have to get a network card? I just sent my wife to get on while shopping and the employee at the store told her that all we need to do is reinstall the program correctly (which as far as I can tell, I am)

I have just purchased an XPS420 from Dell in Australia. It is currently running Vista Ultimate and the last desktop I had was XP Pro and everything was fine.

All I want to do is to be able to share files between my desktop and laptop - I have already set up printer sharing with no problem - it's just the file sharing that is the problem.

I have set up the firewalls to allow file sharing and both computers can 'see' eachother but when I go to click the shared file for my Vista desktop on my XP Home laptop it displays an error message saying I don't have permission - access denied!

The same thing happens on the Vista desktop when I try accessing the shared files on the laptop - except I can get in and view the files but can't open, copy, delete or change any of the files in the directory.

I desparately need help - I have a D-Link DI-524 Wireless Router and the laptop is connected through wireless.

Thank-you in advance.
