I almost always use my wireless connection. Of course with Vista the majority of the time I'm fighting with keeping a connection but oh well. My question has to do with switching back and forth. My boyfriend has high speed cable internet and uses an ethernet cord. There are no codes/passwords/etc needed to get it to work. When he uses it on his computer he has full internet access - when I use it on mine I have local only. I was present when the cable was installed and there were no changes made to my boyfriends computer in order for the lan to work. He also uses wireless so I'm confused as to why mine won't work.

Is there anything I can do to allow my computer to connect through the lan? I'm new to Vista and not quite sure exactly what to do and where to look when it comes to certain things.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Not sure if it works the same on vista but on the older versions of windows in the start menu there is a link that says "connect to", click there and disable your wireless and make sure the one that shows up when you insert the cable is active. That should help

If u are connecting your laptop by using a cable to the router then your bf has to make sure that the router configuration allows your laptop to have full access.

but that's more hassle. why don't u just use the router's wireless capability and connect to internet by using the secure code he set up for his Wireless LAN.

In vista--click the start-connect to---

you should see his WLAN network name--then just click it and select connect--and put the Secure ID he chose for his network.

Good Luck.

Hey hun. If you want a LAN connection , make sure your PC or laptop has a network adapter(classic LAN). If you do have that , then you need to mess around with Vista untill you connect.

try it. in many situations lag is brought about by ability of an overloaded server or sluggish community connection. The on the spot component of the link is often not a bottleneck, till too many everyone seems to be sharing the relationship or you have a low high quality sign for some reason.
