Dear Yahoo Answers,
I recently installed a Clean Install of Windows Vista Ultimate on my Computer. Before that I used to run Windows XP Home. My internet was configured through a WG111 Netgear Router. Now the problem I am having is that I have installed the Required Netgear Software for Vista, but when I insert the USB Router into my computer instead of getting one beep ( which i assume means that the computer has detected a device) i receive two quick beeps. Now usually when A Netgear router is detected by the computer the Netgear program should start, but it doesn't in this case.

I have not updated Windows Vista so it may be a problem of outdated or incompatible drivers.... What should i do?, what should i download?, how should i fix it?.

Please Help, as I really want to connect to the internet.

Any Contribution will be appreciated.

Thankyou

P.S: I think the double beep of inserting the USB Router has a significant role in this.

Hi, I have the WRT54G v8 router. We have two computers in the house that are connected with wireless PCI cards. One is a laptop and the other is a desktop. The laptop has vista and the desktop has XP. When trying to transfer a 1gb file from the desktop to the laptop, the internet connection drops and I had to restart the modem for it to work again. Does anyone know if there is a fix for this, am I doing anything wrong or is there nothing I can do?

I just had a couple of questions about networking. I have a Belkin wireless network to share my internet with my sister's computer. I've decide to switch from wireless to wired, and I have the ethernet cable to do so, however, if I hook up the ethernet cable from her computer to the wireless router, would it still be considered a wireless connection since it would be hooked up to a wireless router? Also, if I were to decide to buy a different modem besides Belkin, would I need to install that modem on my computer, since a network connection through the Belkin modem has already been set up, or could I hook it up to work right away? I had to replace my old Belkin wireless router months ago with a different Belkin router, and it worked with no need for the installation CD and no problem, but I wondered if a conflict could be presented with a router from another company. Thank you for those who can provide answers!

So basicly i've got 2 questions.

1) so i'm buying a notebook today, it doesn't have wifi built in, but has wifi capabilities. so, my buddy has the little usb-port wifi cards. its 802.11g, by linksys, i might buy it from him.....what i'm wondering, is......is there a noticable performance, or any diffrenece between the small usb-port wifi cards, and the larger-notebook specific cards? like will i have less of a signal? or slower performance? bascily, anything between the two?

2) if i do end up buying the small usb-port wifi card from him. he says he doesn't have the disk anymore. Do i HAVE to have the disk? to get started? or can i just plug in the wifi, and it'll hook up to the internet and just download it.....bascily, anyway around not having the setup disk?????

thanks

Well, for starters I'm a Comcast customer from Northern Colorado. I've had this service for two years and all the while it's been excellent and I've had no complaints regarding speed or accessibility. As of last Friday, however, I've been having issues with internet slow-downs that cripple any chances of so much as a pleasant internet experience. E-mail accounts that take 10 minutes to load, movies that will not even start, 10 mb downloads taking 30 minutes. I'm a highspeed internet client with a very fast connection. I tried fixing it myself by resetting the router. This seemed to fix the problem! But a few minutes go by and I'm back down to 9kb a minute. It's painful. Does anyone have this problem? Is it a router problem? I'm connected directly to the router and the router itself is secured with WEP encryption, I've checked the client list and it's just me on it, also shutting down all other pc's on the network and power cycling the entire thing fixes the problem only a few minutes..

I am trying to connect to my wireless router. It is my friend's router. He just moved in and we got set up with DSL. The router was set up on his computer. There is no encryption on it. My friend can connect. I cannot. I am sitting right next to it and there are full bars but when I try to connect, it says the network is out of range. What might I do?

I have a wireless network set up in my home and it keeps crapping out, but only on one of the 4 computers connected, what's wrong? The spped and signal strength are as strong as possible, but the connection still breaks, usually every couple minutes. The microwave breaks the connection, but the connection breaks even when the microwave is off. This problem has only started occuring in the last 2 months. Do I need a new wireless card for my PC? I have tried rebooting the modem and router, but that has neither helped nor hindered the performance of the internet on the computer. By the way, this computer is closer to the router than any other computer in my house so that makes the connection issues that much more baffling to me. Please help.
