Well, for starters I'm a Comcast customer from Northern Colorado. I've had this service for two years and all the while it's been excellent and I've had no complaints regarding speed or accessibility. As of last Friday, however, I've been having issues with internet slow-downs that cripple any chances of so much as a pleasant internet experience. E-mail accounts that take 10 minutes to load, movies that will not even start, 10 mb downloads taking 30 minutes. I'm a highspeed internet client with a very fast connection. I tried fixing it myself by resetting the router. This seemed to fix the problem! But a few minutes go by and I'm back down to 9kb a minute. It's painful. Does anyone have this problem? Is it a router problem? I'm connected directly to the router and the router itself is secured with WEP encryption, I've checked the client list and it's just me on it, also shutting down all other pc's on the network and power cycling the entire thing fixes the problem only a few minutes..

I have not seen this problem. My feeling is that you either have a faulty router or faulty modem.

There may be a firmware problem. Go to the router maker's web site and see if there is an updated firmware. If so load the new firmware. Use a wired connection to do this.

I would want to rule out wireless hackers. Shut down wireless and use wired connection. If the problem goes away there is a problem with the wireless - and probably with hackers. Go to WPA if you can and invoke MAC address verification.

If the problem remains after firmware update and with a wired connection, get Com Cast involved; they may have a modem problem they need to address.

Try these steps.

Turn off all computers, turn off router, then unplug the modem, (If you have CDV, you will need to reset the modem, which is on the back of the modem unplugging the modem will not work if you have touch tone telephone modem.) Then after the modem is unplugged/reset, turn on the router and then the computers. If the download speed doesn't improve, try hooking one computer direct to the modem., which will require another power cycle of the computer and modem. If the speed is good direct to modem, call manufacturer of the router, if its still slow, check for splitters between your modem and the wall.

Try connecting directly to the modem. See if this is better than worse. It is possible that Comcast has a problem. If that proves to work OK, I would call my router manufacture and find out what is happening.
Have you cleaned up your PC lately?

Because you mentioned WEP; that references wireless connectivity; please try connecting directly with ethernet cabling and see what happens. Other than that call your ISP and if they say everything is fine, you might as well replace the router if they will do so free of charge....else ask again here
