I don't understand it. If yahoo messanger works doesnt that mean that I do have internet? I can't get any webpages in internet explorer to work though. It's a new wireless network adapter and it worked fine when i set it up then i restarted my computer and now it says "you are connected to the access point, but the internet cannot be found"

There are too many variables that need to be resolved.

First are other pcs on the network able to access the internet?

Secondly, is the wireless transmission down due to distance or blockage (e.g. metal duct in wall or masonry)?

Third, is there a config problem?

Check these things out first and report back:
1. Open command prompt (start, run - type in cmd and hit enter).
2. In command prompt type in "ipconfig /all" without quotes (never type in quotes in command prompt commands I show here). Hit enter. You should be shown the ip address, subnet mask, and default gateway for the wireless port. Unless you also have a wired port wired to the router you should not see an IP address for a wired port. The IP should NOT start with 169. and if it does it means you are not connected to the router and you have a problem with the router wireless port to your pc that needs to be fixed. Assuming you have an ip address, subnet mask, and default gateway, write them down. Probably the IP address and gateway will be in the 192.168.x.y format where x runs from 0 - 255 and y from 1 - 255. You will see the x value the same for default gateway and IP address but y will be different.
3. In command prompt type "ping " where is the default gateway IP (e.g. if 192.168.1.1 is default gateway type in "ping 192.168.1.1" and hit enter. You should receive 4 responses. If you do not you have a problem linking pc to router and need to fix this.
4. In command prompt type "ping 4.2.2.2" and hit enter. You should receive 4 replies. If not you have a problem between router and ISP; check router wan config out and if this does not fix it, contact your ISP.
5. In command prompt tyupe "ping yahoo.com" and hit enter. You should receive 4 positive replies; if not you have a DNS problem and this needs to be fixed.
6. If all of the above work, you have a firewall blocking things.

Write back if you need more help - but include the results of the above.

i think its because your router settings are " connect as access point". i was messing around my wireless router and accidentely selected USE AS AN ACCESS POINT" and i had no internet connection.

also try to check your Proxy setting in your browser.

MSN works means your outbound connection is OK. Your browser "Proxy settings" would contribute to "cannot find" or "cannot resolve" error.
