I am trying to connect to my wireless router. It is my friend's router. He just moved in and we got set up with DSL. The router was set up on his computer. There is no encryption on it. My friend can connect. I cannot. I am sitting right next to it and there are full bars but when I try to connect, it says the network is out of range. What might I do?

You say there is no encryption activated. I would check this out. You may not have WEP but it may be WAP - check this out and correct it if needed.

You did not state whether MAC address verification was activated - if so load your MAC onto the router MAC file. This is the MAC address of your wireless adapter.

Is your wireless on the notebook active? It can be deactivated and still indicate network presence.
