Computer Networking - September 2007

Hi,

In one house me and my brother both had separate Virgin Media Broadband accounts, with separate cable modems (and separate cabling on the outside of the house).

I've just cancelled my service with them. Is it possible to somehow share his internet connection with me? Given the fact that the cabling is in place and even the modem. I have a splitter which on one end has Broadband, one TV - Can this be used perhaps?

If not then when my brother goes on vacation am I able to on the outside of the house where the cables are, unscrew his line and screw in my line into his as his is active and mine is not active? Would that then provide me with broadband to my room?

I think it would, but am I right?? And how can we go about sharing the broadband connection? Is it even possible? I mean the modem has a USB and a Ethernet connection, if he were to use the USB and then I had a long enough Ethernet going from that one modem to my PC - is there a way of sharing the connection that wa

Okay heres my dilema. My xboxlive has a strict nat meaning that i cannot connect and chat with many of my friends. I have had xbox live for a while and this new internet box we got when my family moves has the strict nat. I want to know if i can set my xbox to have a static ip and do port forwording on it or whatever i need to do, while the other computers are dynamic. I understand to fix the nat i need to forword some ports or something and i need static ip on the thing. So can i turn one thing static and leave the others normal?

When I go to "refresh network list" it just says "No wireless networks were found in range. Make sure the wireless switch on your computer is on." My other computer is connecting to my router, so I know this is just a problem with the particular computer I'm using. How do I take care of this problem?

We have six computers in the house and im pretty sure there is a firewall that stops unwanted people using the internet. About a week ago only three computers were connected and I bought a laptop and clicked on connect and typed in the password and I had internet. Then wihile I was away, my mom had a computer specialist come help add two apples to the wireless internet. She did but know I cant get any internet. The internet on my desktop's signal is very low.
I don't know why, considering the area it is in always recieves excellent signal.
Until yesterday, it has dropped to low, and now cannot even connect anymore.
I've tried moving it to a different location, made it only worse.
And there cannot be any interferences.
Please help!
Every computer but mine works!
I have two computers, where I switch the adapter to use the internet, and it's both low signal, where it should be excellent!

Details:
Modem: Westell Versalink 327W
Adapter: Wireless given by BellSouth.
Operating System: Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

I connect to the internet through my university's VPN in my halls. The only problem with it is that they can't open it up for us to play games due to, "security reasons". Is there a way around this i.e. changing what ports the games use to match the VPN?

My modem is speedtouch brand, Network Connections: ive have only Local area connection & speed 100.0 Mbps. When i run Maplesea/Maplestory, it run so slow(laggy). Ive done everything including defragment & disk cleanup. Why? How to make my modem internet run fast & smooth without laggy ?

i have a 39 percent signal, and the speed test is telling my download rate is over 2.5 mb per second but i cant download movies or stream video its 4 in the morning so i know that they're not on, i only use when they are not on, any idea what's going on and how i can fix it?
