...a 6Mbps/512k internet connection from Comcast, when I could move to Hong Kong and pay the same amount for a SYMMETRICAL 100Mbps connection? Why do customers act like sheep and ISPs manipulate them to squeeze the largest amount of money possible for such a weak product? What the hell is America coming to?

@AxPxE:
You missed my point entirely. You are indeed one of the "sheep" I am referring to.

AT&T is offering the same speeds for $30. I have Comcast too and I'm planning to switch over to AT&T with the help of Best Buy. If I sign up over there, I'll get a free $75 gift card. =)

You are paying $50 a month because the area you live in is basically owned by Comcast and they can charge what ever they feel they can get away with and people will pay cause Insight or roadrunner can't enter there area they pay the local government for the right to sell service in that area not to mention you don't live in Hong Kong and they know your not going to move there just to get a faster connection

I would say the reason is that while the ISP's all know they could provide a better service, if NONE of them do so, the the average customer won't know they could do any better. Thus is mainly comes down to a forced lack of choices. I find it supremly ironic that the country that founded the internet doesn't implement internet service better than it does but instead allows other countries to make the United States look terrible at it.

I say go for it and move to Hong Kong. You only live once, and let's face it, what more can you ask for in life than a 100Mbps symmetrical connection for $50.

How much would it cost to move to Hong Kong?

Probably about as much as it'd cost you to get a faster connection where you already are.
