I am setting up a Linux box as a gateway and firewall for my companies LAN. The box also runs postfix as an outgoing SMTP server. Sometimes, people come and join the network with their laptops which are configured to use a different mail server. This is problematic since those mail servers will not accept connections from us (as they only allow their own customers to use their mail server). I would like to set up my firewall that no matter what mail server they try use, it always uses my one. I know this is possible, as I have seen it in action, the question is how..

I'm on a wireless connection and it says:speed:24mbps signal strength varies from low to very good STATUS: CONNECTED Why can't I connect very well? Don't ask "If you can't connect how are you asking the question" It connects, it just has to fail 50 times first! Whats wrong with it and how do I fix it?

i Just bought a Inki1 branded switch yesterday, and there wasnt any username or password included with it to access the control panel interface of the switch, i have read the manual twice and all the manual tells me is how the cables (straigh through and crossover) are wired and what network cables it takes, it has nothing about the control panel, or the DEFAULT username and password, i need to access the control panel to set the switch to a specific ip address and MAC address

i have a 2000 kb/s connection, but can only get 500 kb/s "download speeds"and yes I do use a router. while i have several PC's with the same router all of the other PC's are older than mine, but have speeds up to 2400 kb/s. and i only get 500, even when nobody except me is using internet, because if others use it i get 120 kb/s, the most probable cause would be system settings, and pls no stupid answers like, "do u have 3 computers?" or "change ISP" or "get a new PC"
as I cannot answer any of your answers please, so not ask them, and try to answer all the possibilities if i have forgotten something, or alteast list what i have forgotten
ty very much

I live with my parents now and there's a wire from the modem to the router, from the modem into their computer, and from their home computer back into the router. I am moving out, and so the only computer I will have is my laptop. Can I wire the router in such a way that the only thing it connects to is the modem? (Without having to loop it through a stationary computer tower) Really, I just don't want to plug in my laptop to use the net, and I don't want to buy another computer.

My phone is down and I don't have any money to use a pay phone (another story in itself) I need to make an urgent phone call. I'm very computer literate, so if someone could give me a name of a program or atleast point me in the right direction, or even if this is possible, I should be able to figure the rest out. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I met a problem when testing latency of a network. I can connect to Yahoo, but cannot ping through it. It always says "Request time out". This also happens when I try other sites I can connect to normally, even after I disabled firewall on my pc.

Has anybody met this problem? Any lead is sappreciated.

Okay this is weird. I AM connected to my home network wirelessly. I can use Trillian, my IM client. I can use outlook to send and recieve email AND use the Outlook browser to use the internet.

But if I open IE or firefox it doesn't connect to the internet. It just keeps turning and turning like it's in the process of connecting. This hasn't been a problem in the past.

Details: I have vista on my laptop, XP on my main desktop, bitdefender on the desktop and mcaffee on the laptop. Please let me know what you think I should do.
