no changing your isp will not cause the router to suddenly power up more and send a stronger signal out. Check into a secondary wireless router to cover the missing sections, perhaps a nice linksys N

Fire your network consultant.
The ISP has NO influence on the range of a wireless LAN.
I suspect your 3 Mbps DSL is sufficient. Your wireless LAN is the problem. You probably need a handful of wireless access points to cover your hotel all wired back to a central network switch. These wireless access points cannot interfere with each other so household grade units are not appropriate. You need more robust, reliable multiaccess points. I suggest you consider power over Ethernet (PoE) types so you need to run ONLY the network cable (and not a 120 v line in addition) and use a PoE capable network switch. A "mesh" architecture is probably best. Proxim markets systems for this that work nicely and they may be your ideal choice. You will need someone familiar with a multipoint wireless system as well. I do not believe your IT person has the skill sets for this.

As far as internet speed, from personal experience, cable is way faster than DSL. Now I have a small wireless network in my house using D-link router, not only do I get good signal but my neighbors across the street tell me they pick up my signal with their wireless cards.

No, type of internet connection does not affect the wireless range, as long as you buy the Draft N wireless router. I recommend you to use Cable Connetion. It does not depends on distance like DSL. And it's much faster than DSL that allow you to let more users to use the connection than DSL does.
Good Luck,

Tech guy is talking rubbish... wifi is wifi is wifi. It doesn't matter what internet connection it offers out, the wifi bit works the same.
Well... with a couple of exceptions.
Standard wifi should run 100metres in free air... less through walls and trees (and bears). If you're trying to cover significantly more than a 100m radius, you can:
1) Put in a wifi repeater... a wifi router connected back by power and ethernet cables to your building in a waterproof cover up a pole in your hotel site. Just make sure it's a non-metal cover or the wifi will be trapped inside the tin hat.
2) Get one of the extended range wifi setups... linksys for instance... to replace your current router.
