Okay this is weird. I AM connected to my home network wirelessly. I can use Trillian, my IM client. I can use outlook to send and recieve email AND use the Outlook browser to use the internet.

But if I open IE or firefox it doesn't connect to the internet. It just keeps turning and turning like it's in the process of connecting. This hasn't been a problem in the past.

Details: I have vista on my laptop, XP on my main desktop, bitdefender on the desktop and mcaffee on the laptop. Please let me know what you think I should do.

sounds like a problem with just port 80 traffic. do you use a proxy server? if so make sure its setup right, if not make sure you have the settings cleared. I've seen adware set proxy config before. Its under IE > Tools > Internet options > LAN Settings on general tab. Also disable your firewall temporarly and try it to see if it is blocking traffic

Open your web browser, go to Tools, Internet Connections, Communications tab. Make sure you have selected "never dial a connection" as I suspect your browser wants to use dial up.

If this does not work, open command prompt (start, run - type in cmd and hit enter). In command prompt type "ping 4.2.2.2" without the quotes and hit enter. You should see 4 positive responses. If not, you have a configuration problem on your router. Then type "ping yahoo.com" without quotes and hit enter. You should see 4 positive responses; if not your DNS is in error - go to the pc LAN connection and make sure it states obtain an IP address automatically and obtain DNS automatically.

These things should get you back in shape. If not, start a new question and indicate your response with the suggestions above.
