I have a Virgin Broadband contract which is for one year and doesnt end until January 2008. Problem is its a crap deal, their phone rates are dire and their TV package is worse. Sky are doing a much better deal, does anyone know how I can get out of Virgin to go with Sky without incurring loads of costs?

Tell them you are moving house to an area that is not served by their service.
That's what I did, and it worked for me.

It's only a little white lie, so what the hell.

Good Luck

Let's summarize things:

1. You have a valid contract with Virgin Broadband that you willingly entered. It does not expire until January 2008 or 4 months from now.
2. You either did not shop around when selecting the Virgin service or it was the best deal at the time.
3. You are not having service quality issues - or you would have said so.
4. Another supplier now is willing to offer to you a less costly contract for equivalant service. Probably they have a 12 month contract too. I suspect your current supplier will match this if you had no service from anyone.
5. You want to ignore your contract obligation and go elsewhere. Lawyers call this breach of contract. Penalties will be forthcoming if you do this. You do not want to incurr penalties regardless.

Having said the above, you cannot dump the current supplier without cause. It is breach of contract.

You may be successful in getting the same deal with Virgin that Sky offers IF you are willing to sign a new contract with them for another 12 months. This may be an attractive alternative BECAUSE Sky will require a 12 month contract anyway. This is your only reasonable option.
